WHAT IS THE 2012 TASMAZIA INTERNATIONAL MURAL FEST?

International Mural Fest is a truly unique art competition that is held annually in Sheffield - Town of Murals, in Tasmania, Australia. In 2012, The Tasmazia International Mural Fest begins on April 8 and concludes on April 14.

The Tasmazia International Mural Fest sees nine artists engaged in a public paint off over 6.5 days. Each artist must complete a 2100mm x 4800mm mural, using the same poem as their mural’s central theme and inspiration. Each year a new poem is selected, meaning no two Mural Fests are ever the same. The competition is conducted in Mural Park – Sheffield’s very own outdoor art gallery.

Artists are subjected not only to public scrutiny and time constraints during the paint-off week, but also to the sometimes unpredictable Tasmanian weather! National Mural Fest therefore tests not only artistic skill, but also endurance and tenacity.

At the end of the paint off week, a panel of qualified judges decides the winner of the event’s major prize, The Mural Fest Judge’s Award. In 2012 this will be a prize of $6000.

During the paint off week, visitors and supporters who come to Mural Park to view the progress are encouraged to vote for their favourite artwork. At the end of the week, the votes are tallied and the artist whose painting receives the most votes is awarded The Mural Fest Visitors Award. This is a prize of $1000.

Lions Club of Kentish Old Time Music Hall

Old Time Music Hall

The Lions Club of Kentish “Old Time Music Hall” production has been an ongoing tradition in Sheffield for 29 years. Four shows and two matinee productions are conducted in mid August every year. No other show in Tasmania is like this one!
Shows are colourful and often bawdy with audience participation involving cheering the hero. Of course, naturally booing and hissing the villain goes without saying! Audience interaction is part of the performance and can be hilarious. The performers, cast and crew are all local people dedicated to Music Hall entertainment.
Held in the magnificent historic Sheffield Town Hall (built in 1914), these historic surroundings are perfectly in tune with the atmosphere of the Music Hall tradition. The home cooked meal adds to the unique experience for the audience.
Ladies from the Bowls Club cook and serve the “home-cooked” dinner while drinks are served by handsome, stylishly dressed, waiters co-opted from the Kentish Lions Club, as the older tradition approves.

A fabulous night of entertainment for all! So come along and enjoy yourself!

Contact Don Braid on  03 6491 1414 for bookings and  information on the 2012 production.

Proceeds of the Music Hall are donated to charities and projects selected by the Kentish Lions Club.
